Testing services without third-party cookies

POSTED: 23.01.2024AUTHOR: ADMIN7 MIN READCOMMENTS: 0

Browser restrictions on cross-site cookies should be tested as a service dependency, not left to the advertising team or inferred from whether the homepage still renders.

Inventory cross-site state

Record every embedded frame, identity flow, payment step, analytics endpoint and personalisation service that reads or writes cookies in a third-party context. Link each dependency to a supplier, business owner and test journey.

Exercise restricted browsers

Run complete journeys with third-party cookies blocked, including sign-in redirects, consent changes, returning-user states and embedded tools. Inspect storage access and network requests rather than treating a visually unchanged page as proof of correct operation.

Replace assumptions with contracts

Prefer first-party server events and explicit identity hand-offs where they meet the service need. For retained third parties, document the supported browser mechanism, data boundary, failure state and date on which the integration will be reviewed again.

TEST CONDITION

A supplier statement of compatibility is not journey evidence. Verify the exact embedded configuration and browser populations used by the production service.
